They are very different players. Lautaro is a tried and true goal machine, very strong and calculated with his touches inside the area. Alvarez is the guy you want to keep hold of possession of the ball, exceptional stamina and probably one of the most clever pressing forwards in the world atm, considerably better when it comes to vision, curve and set pieces in general. Closer to a 10 or a deep-lying forward. I'd say if you need the workrate, and want somebody that can break deadlocks and open up games, Alvarez all the way. But if you've got the supporting runs and creators to press high with both lines, Lautaro is your man. I think that, as a 9 in general, Lautaro is just elite. He ranks in a spot that very few players ever reach in their full careers, but you'll never see him playing out on the wing, as a 10 or as an 8. Alvarez does all of that and then some.
