I am using a Formation similar to Ajax because that's what i assume Ten Haag would use.
When making this team I only had 3 positions where I knew i could play current players. De Gea, Sancho, and Ronaldo. They have been pretty consistent and good in this otherwise poor end to the season.
Therefore the rest of the team had to be rethought.
I tried to consider teams who might sell, and players who want to leave the team, and players from a different league who could see united as a step up.
Let me skip past GK, as I'm just keeping DDG and Heaton.
I want to keep Varane, he has been a consistent strong presence in the defence and I would sell maguire on the spot and get in plenty of replacements. Now, i wouldn't sign all of these players, but i would try and get one or two. Rudiger, who has been great this season for Chelsea, he is leaving on a free, and if he would be willing to help us rebuild it would be great, but i also think he wants to win something, so he might not want to come here to rebuild. Thats why i also chose Torres, Kounde and Gvardiol. Players who have good pace for CBs so can hopefully catch fast attackers. Id try and get two of them, and to play with varane, and when varane is injured, which i hope he wont be too much next season. But id also keep Lindelöf as a bench option and use mengi, bernard and maybe tuanzebe as well either from the bench or in cups. Id sell bailly, jones, Maguire.
On RB, I decided dalot and AWB should be sold, one is mostly attacking, poor defense, and vice versa. So I want to find a better match. To me that's Mazraoui, and Ten Haag knows him so it should be an instant impact. But if he doesn't want to move i would consider mukiele, and use Williams as a backup, i really think he has potential Erik can bring out.
In LB Wijndal has been good for AZ, and im sure ten haag knows him, and would know how to use him. But i would also consider Cucurella because i think Brighton would be willing to sell to us and he has done well this season. And Laird as a back up to either. But i don't think i would buy both of them.
In CDM i think its between Tchouameni and Bissouma. Tchou wants to leave i think, and would be willing to join a project, and Bissouma is also an option because i think Brighton is willing to sell, and he is prem proven and i think would do better than what we have at least. Matic is too old, McT isnt good enough and disappears too often in a game, Fred has a motor on him, but he isn't good enough, but McT and Fred could be decent bench options.
In CM i would keep Donny, he knows how to play for Erik, and Erik knows Donny, but, i would also consider Tielemans because he might cost as little as 25 mil from Leicester so why not bolster out midfield with a very talented player if we can?
In CAM i decided to keep bruno despite his poor performances, because i think he could reblossom under TH and show us what made him so good his first season. But if we want to go to a different player Nkunku could be worse, and he could also be handy in a fluid forward 4. where they interchange postions. And i would have Mejbri as a backup or for cup games.
On LW i would have Sancho , who has been exceptional in comparison to the rest. I would consider Popescu who is a young Romanian prospect along with Garnacho who isn't on fifa yet, but is a good talent. I would even consider Richarlison who we could get from Everton at a decent price if they go down, or just end the season poorly since they'd probably look to get rid of a fair bit of the players to rebuild. Richarlison could play on the wings and as a striker, so this could add to a nice fluid attack.
Cristiano has been the only consistent goal scorer, so i would keep him there, and get in Darwin Nunez in as a back up as it seems unreasonable for a nearly 40 year old to play a full 90 every game. more like 50-60 min and then bring on a fresh Darwin.
On RW Id have elanga over rashford until his form and attitude improves, he has done plenty of brilliant work off the pitch, but you have been poor and lazy on the pitch.
